 1. It's good for your child:  

Research shows that children whose parents are involved in their school make better grades and have fewer disciplinary problems at school. When parents get plugged in at school, their children do better.  

2. It's important for the school:  

The PSG is responsible for almost all the school's community events and raising funds for the activities. We provide support to teachers and administrators, and they create a caring and supportive atmosphere in the school. Just about each month, we have a fun and engaging event from International Brunch, Music on the Green, Welcome Back Picnic, Fall Festival, Breakfast with Santa, Teacher and Staff Appreciation and more.  

3. You'll get connected:  

There's no better way to know what's going on in the school than to be involved in the PSG. We are often the first to hear about important decisions and events the school is planning, and as an active member, you will get to know teachers and administrators on a familiar basis.  

4. You'll be part of a network: 

Every PSG meeting and special event is an opportunity to meet other parents in the same situation as you. You will relate to a group of parents who share a common goal of loving our school for our children and coming together to bring amazing events and support.  

5. You'll make a difference:  

By volunteering with the PSG, you'll be able to use your skills for a noble cause. We work to establish a supportive and encouraging community for the entire school. Our goal is to support new parents, create plan community events and support the teachers with their planned activities.  

6. It's fun!  

You'll connect with a group of people who are all concerned with creating a better environment for our children. You will help plan fun events that the whole family can attend.  

7. You'll be a role model:  

You'll show your children that not only are they important to you, but their education is as well. They'll see you taking a stand to make the educational community fun for them and their peers, and chances are they'll do the same.  

8. You'll help raise necessary funds:  

PSG fundraises to provide community events for our students and families. Fundraisers include popcorn sales, bake's sale, and the book sale.  

 9. It's flexible:  

The PSG has a variety of small ways parents can help and be involved. From serving all year as a board member to volunteering a few hours for a one-day event, or by donating items… there are many opportunities for parents to help. Project responsibilities are flexible and can be adjusted to fit your time constraints.

Your voice and opinion matters! It makes a difference when you speak up. Your ideas can help improve the quality of education for your children and their peers. When you see the smiles on their faces, you'll know that you've played a part in making school a little more comfortable and fun.

QSI Bratislava PSG BYLAWS  

The Quality School International of Bratislava (QSIB) has an active Parent Support Group (PSG). All parents of students enrolled for the school year make up the general membership of the PSG. The PSG is to provide parental support for ongoing school activities, to encourage communication and to build positive relationships among students, teachers, staff, and parents with emphasis on assistance to new families. The PSG objectives and activities are coherent with the mission and guiding principles of QSIB. 

The vision of the QSIB PSG is to encourage and enhance the educational experience of our children, teachers, and administration. In doing so, we will foster a sense of support, pride, and enthusiasm through the creation of student and family activities through volunteering.  

Article I – Name   

The name is QSI Parents Support Group, also known as PSG  

Article II – Mission  

Foster a spirit of community where educational excellence and cultural diversity can thrive.     

Article III – Objectives   

The PSG strives to do the following: 

• build community through family and parent social activities;  

• encourage parents’ involvement in the QSI community;  

• help new families with the challenges of transition;  

• support educational activities that supplement/complement the QSI curriculum; and 

• organize fundraising events to support activities and events at QSI.

Article IV – Membership   

All parents and guardians of QSI students are automatically members of the PSG.  There are no membership dues.     

Article V – Executive Committee (Board Members)  

1. The Executive Committee  

 a. Composition of the Executive Committee of the PSG     

 i. President 

ii. Vice President 

iii. Secretary    

iv. Treasurer    

 b. Duties of the Executive Committee members    

  i. The​ President shall preside over general meetings of the PSG, serve as the primary contact for the QSI Director, represent the PSG at meetings inside and outside the school. The president works closely with other Committee members, especially the Vice-president, who needs to be aware of all issues in order to be able to step in when needed.

 ii. The Vice President shall assist the President and carry out the President duties in his or his/her absence. The Vice President works closely with other Committee members. 

iii. The Secretary shall keep all records, prepare agendas, record, and circulate minutes to those present at the meeting, handle correspondence, and send notices of meetings to members. The Secretary shall also keep the bylaws and the PSG binder.   

iv. The Treasurer shall receive all funds, keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and pay out funds with the approval of the Executive Committee. He or she will report on PSG finances at every general meeting and make a full report at the end of the year.  

Article VI Meetings    

Members of the PSG gather for General Meetings held in the QSI Cafeteria (or empty classroom), at 8:40 on the first Friday of every month from September until June. Members will be advised upcoming meetings (school newsletter, QSI Facebook, PSG Facebook, and PSG WhatsApp group). 

Article VII – Decision Making     

Unless otherwise stated in these bylaws, decision making shall be by majority of members present at the meeting at which the decision is being made.  Alternatively, PSG Executive Committee can approve by consensus to ask PSG members to vote online on an urgent matter.

Article VIII  Nomination, Election, Removal of Executive Committee Members and Vacancies  

Nomination and/or election of Executive Committee Member occurs at the end of the school year in June before the summer break.     

1. Nomination and Self-nomination   

When only one candidate is nominated or self-nominated for an Executive Committee position, that person assumes the position concerned.     

2. Voting   

If more than one candidate is nominated or self nominated for an Executive Committee position, an election is held for that position and the person obtaining the greatest number of votes as cast by those members present at the first meeting will assume the position concerned. Alternatively, the PSG Executive Committee, after consulting with school administration, can approve by consensus to hold the election online where each QSI parent holds one vote.   

3. Vacancy  

A vacancy may be filled by nomination, self-nomination or voting as set out in Article VIII (1&2). Notice of the vacancy must be given to the member at the time of circulating the notice of the upcoming meeting as set in Article VI (Meetings) and must be included as an agenda item for the meeting.  

4. Removal of Committee Member   

A committee member may be removed from his or her position if it is considered necessary. What is ‘necessary’ would be articulated by the Executive Committee, after consultation with the Director. A decision to remove must be made by consensus of those present at the PSG meeting where the issue is discussed.     

Article IX – Amendments to these Bylaws     

These bylaws may be amended at any monthly meeting, providing that notice is given at the meeting prior to and included in the agenda of the meeting in which the amendments are to be voted upon.   

Standing Rules/Procedures

I. Communication and Coordination with the School Administration

1. School Administration will name a school employee to serve as PSG Liaison for each school year.

2. PSG Liaison will: ensure coordination of PSG events with the school calendar, provide information on help the school can offer for PSG events, provide information on the help the school needs for school events, and help with the coordination of joint events.

3. PSG liaison will: participate in PSG meetings every month and be present for PSG Committee meetings that approve agenda for each PSG meeting

4. PSG liaison cannot: cast a vote at Committee meetings or PSG meetings, just provide information and advice

PSG Events

Initial Calendar of Events

1. At the beginning of the school year, before the first PSG meeting, the PSG Board, together with the school administration, should prepare a basic calendar of events with dates.

2. The calendar will specify which events are organized and funded by the school, which are organized and funded by the PSG, and which are joint events.

3. The calendar will not contain more than one event per month.

4. The calendar will be a part of the agenda at the first PSG meeting. There will be a discussion in which amendments can be made and the calendar can be approved by a majority vote of members present at the meeting.

Additional Events

Additional events can be added to the Calendar of Events by the following procedure:

1. Any PSG member can suggest an additional event, during a PSG meeting or by contacting any of the Board members. For the event to be considered, the person suggesting it needs to provide:

   1. Suggested dates and a place for the event

   2. Description on the purpose and details of the event

   3. Budget needed for the event

   4. Volunteers needed for the event

   5. Name and contact of the Point Person for the event who will be responsible for its coordination

2. The event will be evaluated by the PSG Committee and school administration. It will be approved by consensus or vote within the PSG Committee, where 3 out of 4 members must approve the event.

3. If approved by the Committee, the event will be put on the agenda for the next PSG meeting, and it will be approved by a majority vote of PSG members present at the meeting.

4. After approved, the event will be added to the PSG Event Calendar

All the finances raised through an approved PSG event will go towards PSG.

Agenda for PSG Meetings

1. PSG Secretary prepares an agenda for each PSG Meeting

2. Agenda contains:

   1. Financial information from the PSG treasurer (budget from the time of the previous meeting, information on what was gained and what was spent, and the state of the budget at the time of the current meeting).

   2. Detailed information on all decisions to be made at the meeting.

   3. Information on all PSG and school events within the next month

   4. Information on when the next PSG meeting will be held

3. 5-7 days before each PSG meeting, there will be a meeting (virtual or face-to-face) of the PSG Committee and the PSG liaison to go over the contents of the agenda, and they will approve the agenda by consensus.

4. After the committee meeting, the PSG secretary will share the agenda with the PSG members via PSG communication channels.

Minutes from PSG meetings

Minutes from the PSG meetings will contain:

1. Financial information from the PSG treasurer as listed in the agenda

2. Names of the PSG members present as well as the PSG liaison if present

3. Records of items discussed, and all decisions made during the meeting

4. Information on all PSG and school events within the next month

5. Information on the next PSG meeting and when it will be held

Financial Rules

1. PSG Treasurer records all financial transactions and provides a financial report for the agenda and minutes for each PSG meeting

2. All financial transactions, purchases, and budgets need to be approved by PSG members during the PSG meeting by majority vote of the members present. 

3. If the issue is urgent, the PSG committee can approve a financial spending of less than 30 EUR by approval of at least 3 Committee members. This purchase needs to be later confirmed at the next PSG meeting by majority vote of the members present. 

4. At the end of the school year, the PSG budget cannot be lower than 500 EUR, so that the new PSG Committee is able to hold events at the beginning of the following school year.
