English Language Requirements

Students who need further English language proficiency will be placed into our Intensive English (IE) program and given dedicated time during the school day for English Support. Once students test out of the IE program, they will then be placed into the first level of Literature & Writing.

QSI Class Placement by Age

Students are placed with their homeroom age group according to their date of birth; however, they are assessed for achievement in Mathematics and Literacy (Reading and Writing) upon admission to the program and can be placed at a different achievement level for these courses.

STEP 3 - Assessment

Assessment for secondary applications includes a

Meeting with the Director of Instruction and the University Counselor to discuss placement and a graduation plan, and
A baseline test in English and mathematics scheduled either during a school visit or during the student’s first days at school. This test will help the school credit past learning and assess achievement.

Class placement is based on age as well as academic achievement, English language proficiency, graduation planning and postsecondary goals.
