CEESA Safeguarding and Child Protection Statement

• Safeguarding and Child Protection is a priority for every CEESA School.

• CEESA commits to supporting school environments that safeguard children through both prevention and intervention.

• CEESA works in cooperation with international agencies to ensure standards associated with best practices are regularly reviewed, revised, and applied in all operations, activities, and events.

• CEESA leaders honor and uphold child protection guidelines and procedures, in partnership with all stakeholders in their respective school communities.

All CEESA schools will:

• Actively uphold the CEESA Safeguarding and Child Protection Statement.

• Implement school-based Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies and Procedures that include regular onsite training.

• Employ safe recruitment practices consistent with Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies.

• Educate students and adults on Safeguarding and Child Protection.

Abuse and neglect of minors are violations of children’s basic human rights. 

Abuse and neglect constitute impediments to learning and development and adversely affect children’s physical, emotional, and social well-being. Quality Schools International believes that children must be provided with a safe and secure environment in which to develop, thrive, and be successful. Our teachers are required to report child abuse and neglect. Therefore, all QSI schools have a comprehensive child safeguarding and protection handbook in place which includes: 

• The QSI Code of Conduct, which must be signed by all staff, coaches, contractors, and volunteers at the school. 
• Guidelines for training all staff on recognizing abuse, receiving disclosures of abuse and neglect from children, and next steps to take once a disclosure is received.
• Protocol for reporting concerns and allegations of abuse or neglect. 
• Procedures for setting up a school-based Child Protection Team, including the roles and responsibilities of a school Child Protection Lead and Child Protection Team members. 
• Safer recruitment and hiring guidelines. 
• Policies for maintaining safety during fieldtrips, travel, intimate care, and online work, and for preventing and responding to peer-on-peer abuse. 

As an important part of the child safeguarding and protection plan, teachers instruct all children from a young age and in an age-appropriate way to: 

• Understand their right to be safe and recognize abuse of this right.  
• Identify people who can help to keep children safe.
• Talk to a trusted adult when they do not feel safe. 

Child protection lessons align with QSI’s success orientations. In order to create a safe and supportive learning environment, QSI schools focus on: 

• Concern for others: treating each other with respect and empathy. 
• Group interaction: collaborating with each other and developing relationships that value equity and diversity. 
• Responsibility: recognizing individual rights and protecting ourselves while respecting others. 
• Trustworthiness: making decisions that are informed, fair, safe, and ethical. 
• Independent Endeavor: recognizing unsafe or unfair situations and responding in a thoughtful way.
